Notehouse takes its name from the one-room schoolhouse in Indiana where my great-grandfather, Frank McElroy, taught every subject to every student.

One room held many kinds of learning. That is the idea behind Notehouse: a home for the things you read, write, and want to understand.

Built out of daily use.

I’m Brian McElroy. I started building Notehouse to bring my notes, research, and tasks into one place. A saved passage should sit beside the thought it prompted. A task should stay connected to the project it belongs to. An old note should be easy to find when it becomes useful again.

Notehouse is built around Markdown files. You can read them, move them, and use them with other tools. The workspace helps you work with your files; the files remain yours.

Free software, still taking shape.

Notehouse is free. I’m preparing its first public distribution through GitHub. This website introduces the workspace; downloads and installation instructions will follow with the release.
